How do I get my car back from my ex-boyfriend in Texas when I can\’t find him to serve him with written notice?

My ex-boyfriend took my car and refused to bring it back. His last known address is my house and he got fired, so I can’t send him a certified letter like the police department told me to. I’m not sure what else I can do - maybe someone else in Texas can help me? Please?
The police said that its not stolen because he used to live with me.
The car and insurance are both in my name only. He has no family anywhere near here (only lived here for about a year). We’re definitely not common-law married.

  1. Give the police your license number and report your car stolen

  2. I totally agree with 3D.

  3. Who is the car registered to and who is the insurance poilicy under? Texas is after all a community property state that honors common law marriage so if the car is in both or your names then you have a problem. As far as finding him, certainly someone in his family knows where he is, if you have to send a certified letter to him at eveyone of their addresses then do it.

  4. the cops are full of it the car is in your name it is stolen call them back tell them to do there job if my son or daughter takes my car without my permission i can report it stolen it is stolen……. if he wrecks the car it is your ins and you that will pay for that not him if the cops refuse to do there job then threaten to go to the paper and that will get them involved

  5. If the vehicle is in your name only - then you should be able to report it stolen

Just don’t tell them you used to live together - tell them you and he broke up and he took off with your vehicle.

  6. report it to the local police as stolen and you think it was stolen by a guy in Texas and give them the names of contacts and their cities of residence. His punk AS* will rue the day he stole it.

  7. If the car is in your name report it stolen.

  8. Report it stolen. I promise you it will be spotted and given back to you.

  9. OK, your car has not been stolen, there is implied consent, you lived together and he likely was allowed to drive the vehicle all the time. At best, the police might accept a report of your vehicle being taken without permission but that’s the best you are going to do. It will not get your vehicle into the stolen vehicle database either so no one will be looking for it on your behalf. If you can, cancel your insurance policy (some States insist that the plates be turned in before they allow this to happen but try anyway). Don’t know what type of vehicle this is so I don’t know if it makes financial sense or not but you could hire a skip tracer to help you locate the car.

  10. It is stolen, go to the DA and file a complaint

  11. You have a right to contact your local law enforcement agency and report your vehicle as “stolen”. It matters not if you lived together…if the title is only in your name then the car is yours…period.

If you feel that it has been stolen, then report it as a stolen vehicle.

Your ex-boyfriend has no legal rights to your vehicle.
