3 Questions to consider Before You Accept that Promotion

by L.Buckley

You have just been informed that your current employer has handed you a promotion or the company is relocating to cut operation costs. Now what do you do. this could be a easy decision for some but for others their is a lot to consider other than yourself. If your employer offers to take you along, you must decide if you would rather relocate or look for a new job.

Moving and relocating comes with its own set of worries and change that not only effects you but the entire family. This goes as far down to the pets. Everyone is so familiar with their own surroundings and all that will be disrupted. You need to seriously consider what the cost of living will be like in this new city, job opportunities for your spouse and finally what is the quality of life like there?

If you feel excited about the opportunity then this will be a good thing for you. When you like something then transition will be easier. If you don’t have a spouse or kids to worry about then the process is even easier. You may even decide to make a change all on your own and relocate to a new city from within your company.

Most people are not fortunate enough to get that option they are happy to have you as an employee and hope you will be able to remain in your job. There is nothing worse than being forced into a situation that you have no control over when it comes to big decisions like this one.

It doesn’t matter if you relocate to DC, Seattle or NYC you should look for advise in sections of articles that include geographic ratings and data, local employment information, job listings and availability, and of course helpful tips to help make the transition easier on you and your family. Make sure you don’t forget to get help for your spouse to find a new gym and things like that.
